Plan the content before building a site you can edit
Before choosing a website or store, sort content by visitor questions, business purpose, and how often it changes. Then list the materials and checks you will own.
If you want to maintain your own site, decide what information it needs and who will keep it accurate before choosing a design. TalkTalkMySite offers no-code templates, AI chat, and visual editing, so coding or design experience is not required to get started. However, owners are responsible for reviewing the content and layout and entering correct business details.
Sort content into three groups
1) **Core business information:** Your business introduction, services, contact details, and hours. Accuracy matters, even if these details change infrequently. Check the facts and wording before publishing.
2) **Frequently updated information:** News, events, and frequently asked questions. Assign someone to update each item and decide when it should be reviewed. If you plan to edit it yourself, keep the wording concise and note both the last update and the next review date.
3) **Information needed for transactions:** Product descriptions, prices, payment, shipping, and exchange details. If selling is central to your plan, consider store creation rather than a general information site. First write down how you intend to fulfil orders and which settings that process requires.
Choose a site type for your situation
If your main goal is to explain your business and receive enquiries, Basic (website) is an option to consider. If you need to display products and take orders, Standard (store) is a more suitable starting point. If you need to present content in multiple languages, consider Premium (multilingual). Choosing a multilingual option does not automatically ensure that translations are accurate or kept up to date in every language.
Do not decide from feature names alone. Sketch the pages you will manage and the path visitors should follow. Payments, social login, domains, and shipping require setup before use. If your plan includes any of them, decide who will configure and test each one.
Gather materials and plan your checks
- Your business name, contact details, hours, and accurate service or product descriptions
- Photos you plan to use and what each image should communicate
- The next action you want visitors to take: enquire, visit, or order
- A person responsible for edits and a schedule for reviewing information
- For a store, product details and the setup needed to operate payment and shipping
Templates or AI chat can help prepare a draft, but do not publish it without review. Check that menu labels and links work, that text and buttons are readable on a phone, and that prices, contact details, and operating information are current.
Hypothetical example: a solo consultant taking enquiries
**Hypothetical scenario:** Mina wants a site to introduce her service and receive consultation enquiries. She does not plan to sell products or serve multiple languages. Starting with Basic and prioritizing a service introduction, the consultation process, and contact details is a reasonable choice. She checks her hours and contact information before publishing. If she later decides to take product orders, she can separately assess Standard and the payment and shipping setup it requires.
Create a short checklist that names an owner and next review date for each page. Search rankings, sales, unlimited free use, and error-free results are not guaranteed. Your next step is to sort your content into the three groups above and gather the materials for the first page you intend to publish.
