A travel or lodging banner needs more than an attractive view. It should show what makes the room or place distinctive while leaving enough space for a headline and booking button. If you are editing a banner for the first time, do not begin by enlarging the photo at random. Decide what the banner needs to communicate, then work through these steps.

1. Decide the banner’s purpose and copy first

Before choosing a photo, settle on one main message. If the message is “book a room with an ocean view,” the ocean and the view from the room are the key subjects. Draft the headline, a short supporting line, and the action button in advance. A longer headline needs more clear space in the image.

  • Choose one purpose: introduce a room, announce a seasonal offer, or encourage bookings.
  • Draft the headline and button label. For example: “Wake up to an ocean view” / “View rooms.”
  • Decide where the text will sit. If it will be on the left, a photo with a relatively uncluttered left side is easier to use.

2. Choose an appropriate photo and preserve the original

Start with photos that accurately represent the lodging. For a room introduction, decide whether the bed, the window, or the view is most important, and choose an image in which that feature is clear. Check that the season and weather do not create a substantially different impression from the experience currently offered.

TalkTalkMySite lets you search licensed stock images and videos. A stock image, however, does not necessarily show a particular property’s actual room or view. When using one to introduce real facilities, check that its content will not mislead visitors about what they can expect.

  • Make a copy for editing and keep the original unchanged.
  • Check that the main subject is large enough and that enlarging the image will not make it look blurry.
  • Mark elements that must not be cropped, such as a logo, a face, or an important room feature.

3. Crop the image to the wide frame

Check the banner frame in the editor before adjusting the photo’s size and position. Do not automatically center the subject; balance its placement with the space needed for copy. For example, showing a room with an ocean view on the right and placing the headline on the left can keep the subject and text from competing.

Excessive enlargement at the start can crop the subject on mobile screens or make the photo look rough. Make small adjustments instead of moving or zooming a lot at once. Check the edges for awkward cuts through people or room features.

  • Reserve the area that the headline and button will occupy.
  • Position the subject so its gaze or the depth of the space feels natural.
  • Check that important details such as a bed, window frame, or face are not cut off at the edges.
  • Distinguish between the crop shown in the editor and the image as it appears on the published site.

4. Add the headline and button, then read the result in context

Do not finalize the crop based on the photo alone. Add draft copy and see whether the text overlaps a busy part of the image. If there is not enough room, it is often better to reposition the photo or choose an image with more open space than simply shrinking the text. TalkTalkMySite also offers six fonts with live previews, which you can compare to find a readable combination.

  • Place the headline where it does not hide the photo’s main feature.
  • Check that the button stands out from the background and does not collide with the headline.
  • If the copy is long or the background is busy, simplify either the photo or the wording.
  • **Hypothetical example:** If the headline is “A peaceful private stay below the mountain” and sits on the left, a calm patch of sky or wall will usually be easier to read over than dense leaves or elaborate decor.

5. Review the slider and mobile layout

A TalkTalkMySite hero slider can contain up to five images. Rather than repeating the same message on every slide, check whether each image and its copy communicate a different property feature or piece of information. Do not edit only the first slide: review the crop, headline, and button on every slide separately.

A layout that looks balanced on a desktop may shift on a narrow screen: the visible center can change, or text may cover the subject. Open the published preview at available screen sizes and check that the headline, button, and main subject remain visible together. If an important detail is cropped on mobile, adjust the image position or choose another photo.

  • Confirm that the copy and action button on each slide match its image.
  • Check that a headline wrapping onto multiple lines on a narrow screen does not hide the subject.
  • Make sure viewers have enough time to read during transitions and that the first slide’s message is clear.

6. Make a final check and choose the next action

Before publishing, inspect the actual published view: confirm that the image appears as intended, the copy has no typos, and the booking button leads to the intended page. An editor preview cannot guarantee how the banner will look on every device, so check the main screen sizes directly. Also make sure that heavy color or crop adjustments do not give visitors a misleading impression of the actual property.

  • Recheck the crop on the first screen and on every slide.
  • Verify the readability of the headline, supporting copy, and button, as well as the button’s destination.
  • Review the published site on desktop and mobile.
  • Keep the original and edited versions separate so you can compare changes.

**Limitations:** Cropping alone cannot guarantee more bookings or higher search rankings. The visible area can vary with device and aspect ratio, and the editor preview may not exactly match the published page. As a useful next step, publish the banner as a draft or review its preview, then check it on the phone and desktop you actually use to confirm that the headline, subject, and booking button are visible together.
