Reduce Duplicate Content Across Pet Supply Pages: An Editing Order for First-Time Operators

Instead of copying the same copy onto every product page, separate shared information from product-specific details. Follow a practical sequence from mapping your pet supply pages to checking for repetition before publishing.

TalkTalkMySite

1. List the pages and the visitor’s purpose

Before opening the editor, list your site’s pages and write one sentence about the question each page should answer. For example, the home page might answer “What kinds of pet supplies do you sell?”, a product listing “What can I compare?”, a product detail page “Is this item right for my pet?”, and a shipping and exchange page “What happens after I place an order?”

When pages answer different questions, there is less reason to paste the same introductory copy in several places. Start with the home page, product listing, product detail pages, brand or care information, shipping and exchange information, and frequently asked questions. Keep only the pages you actually need.

  • [ ] Write the visitor’s purpose for each page in one sentence.
  • [ ] If two pages serve the same purpose, combine them or define their roles more clearly.
  • [ ] Check that each menu label matches the content of its page.

2. Separate shared information from page-specific information

Shared information is content that needs a single, suitable home. For example, store information, contact instructions, and shipping terms can be gathered on relevant guidance pages. Product pages should contain details that directly help a shopper decide whether to buy that item, such as its material, size, use, intended animal, and cautions.

**Hypothetical example:** Instead of repeating “A choice for safer walks” on both a collar and a harness page, explain what makes each product different. The collar page can cover adjustment range and how it attaches; the harness page can explain where it sits and how to measure for a size. If there is a shared care precaution, explain it fully on a care page and add a brief note on each relevant product page directing readers to that guidance.

  • [ ] Put shared guidance on one page that best fits the topic.
  • [ ] Include at least one relevant, product-specific distinction on each product page.
  • [ ] Rather than copying another page word for word, point to the key information briefly where needed.

3. Use a consistent information outline for product details

A consistent outline makes products easier to compare while allowing the content to differ by item. Gather information in this order: what the product is, which animal or situation it suits, material and size, how to use it, cleaning and care, and cautions. Do not guess at features or suitability that have not been verified. If information is missing, confirm it before publishing.

**Hypothetical example:** A water-supply product detail page can describe capacity and cleaning; a dog-walking bag can describe storage space and how it is worn. Instead of repeating “Makes outings easier” for both products, describe their actual use cases and verifiable specifications separately.

  • [ ] Include the product name and the features needed to identify it in the title.
  • [ ] Separate size, material, use, care, and cautions in the body.
  • [ ] Mark sentences that overlap with other product descriptions and replace them with verified details relevant to this item.

4. Review each page in the editor

Use TalkTalkMySite’s visual editing to open pages one at a time and review headings, body copy, and button labels. AI chat can help create a draft or refine wording, but it does not guarantee factual accuracy or product suitability. Check suggested copy against manufacturer information and the actual product details before using it. Do not duplicate an AI draft unchanged across pages; edit it to fit each page’s purpose.

If you need images, you can use licensed stock image and video search. Images do not replace explanations, so include essential information in the body even when it appears in a photo. When changing typography, use the live previews of the six available OFL Korean fonts to check readability.

  • [ ] Check that the opening sentence on each page explains that page’s purpose.
  • [ ] Make sure each button label matches the page it leads to.
  • [ ] Preview the mobile layout and check that long paragraphs, headings, and buttons remain easy to read.

5. Review search information and check for repetition before publishing

Basic supports shared SEO for the site, while Standard supports per-page SEO and store features. Set titles and descriptions according to each page’s purpose within the capabilities of your plan. Do not copy the same search title and description across different pages: the home page should describe the store as a whole, a guidance page should describe its policy or topic, and a product detail page should describe that product. Search visibility or rankings are not guaranteed.

HEAD meta tags work on published sites. Custom scripts run only on sites with a connected customer domain, so check the publishing environment and domain status first if you need a script. You can do the duplication review with a simple paper list or document.

  • [ ] Read each page title and description to confirm that it accurately represents the page.
  • [ ] Find repeated sentences and move them to shared guidance or replace them with product-specific information.
  • [ ] After publishing, open the pages, menu, and buttons yourself for a final check.

6. Choose the next editing task

Do not try to rewrite every sentence at once. First make a page list, then choose two product detail pages where repetition is most noticeable and separate shared information from unique details. Applying the same rule to the remaining pages afterward makes the work easier to manage.

Your next action is simple: make a table of page names and visitor questions, and mark at least one question that only each page needs to answer. Improve any page that does not answer its question. If a page only repeats information already covered elsewhere, combine it with another page or streamline it.
