Getting started

Before Connecting a Domain: A Solo Founder’s Website Checklist

Before buying or connecting a domain, confirm your site’s purpose, pages, business details, and required settings. This checklist and hypothetical example help first-time creators prepare.

A domain is an address for your site; it does not prepare your content or turn on payment features. Rather than rushing to connect one, decide what you are building, what information you will publish, and what you want visitors to do. Completing the checks below can help reduce changes and rework after the domain is connected.

1. Decide what kind of site you need

  • [ ] Write the purpose in one sentence: for example, introduce a service and receive inquiries, or sell products.

  • [ ] Choose the pages you need. Start with only the scope you can operate, such as an introduction, products or services, and contact information.
  • [ ] Check your language and sales plans. Preparation differs depending on whether you need multiple languages or intend to sell products online.

TalkTalkMySite lets you get started without coding, using templates, AI chat, and visual editing. Design or coding experience is not required to begin, but owners must review and decide on the content, layout, and business details. The plans correspond to different needs: Basic is for a website, Standard for a store, and Premium for multilingual sites. Choose based on the scope you need.

2. Gather materials before connecting the domain

  • [ ] Confirm the business name to display, contact details, and how visitors can reach you.

  • [ ] Prepare page titles, introductory copy, and product or service information.
  • [ ] Gather the photos and logo you plan to use, and decide what each image should communicate.
  • [ ] Choose a domain name and check its spelling, readability, and consistency with your business name.
  • [ ] Decide what each button should do and where it should lead. For example, a contact button should lead to your chosen contact method.

Check the required account access and connection steps with your domain registrar or manager and your site tool. Connecting a domain does not automatically complete payment, social login, or shipping setup. Configure each feature you need separately, then test the full visitor experience.

3. Hypothetical example: a solo handmade-soap seller

A hypothetical owner, Minseo, decides to start with a site for product information and inquiries. Minseo gathers product photos, names, descriptions, and contact details, then decides whether to operate in one language at first. If Minseo plans to take online orders, Minseo checks whether a basic website is sufficient and chooses a store-oriented setup if needed. After connecting the domain, Minseo checks the product information and buttons. To accept payments, Minseo completes payment setup separately. If shipping is offered, its terms and settings also need attention.

4. Final checks before connecting

  • [ ] Read the pages and copy on both a phone and a computer.
  • [ ] Check that the business name, contact details, and product information are accurate and current.
  • [ ] Click the buttons and test the contact path and any required features yourself.
  • [ ] Check the domain spelling and connection status; if something is wrong, follow the instructions from the domain manager or service.

No-code tools can make it easier to start building, but they do not guarantee search rankings or sales, unlimited free use, or a mistake-free site. Your next step is to complete the checklist, preview the site, and verify any domain, payment, login, and shipping settings you need one by one.
