Getting started

Before Building a Café Website or Store: A First-Timer’s Checklist

You can begin without coding or design experience, but you still need to verify your café’s content, layout, and business details. Gather the essentials and decide which setup you need first.

TalkTalkMySite

Before creating a website for your café, decide whether its main purpose is to present the café or to accept online orders. TalkTalkMySite offers no-code templates, AI chat, and visual editing, so you do not need coding or design experience to get started. However, you remain responsible for checking the finished content, page layout, and business information.

1. Decide what the site needs to do

  • If your priority is to share your location, opening hours, menu, and ways to book or get in touch, consider Basic (website).

  • If you plan to sell products online, such as coffee beans or merchandise, consider whether Standard (store) fits your needs.
  • If you need to provide information in multiple languages, consider Premium (multilingual).
  • Online payments require payment setup. If customers need social login, check that setup too. Connecting a domain and arranging shipping also require preparation.

2. Gather materials before you begin

Keeping the items below together makes it easier to choose a template and edit your site.

  • Café name, a short introduction, address, opening hours, days off, and contact method
  • Current menu and prices, descriptions for each item, and photos you intend to use
  • What the site should explain about visiting, reservations, takeaway, or shipping
  • For products you plan to sell: product names, prices, photos, and relevant stock and shipping information
  • Any logo or color materials you want to use, a domain to connect, and information needed for payment or login setup

3. Hypothetical example: Corner Roastery

The fictional café Corner Roastery first wants a website that presents its menu and helps people find the shop. Its owner verifies the address and opening hours, gathers menu photos and prices, and chooses a Basic template. If the café later decides to sell coffee beans online, the owner prepares product information and reviews Standard along with payment and shipping setup. If online sales are not yet planned, there is no need to rush into building a store; the owner can first publish accurate café details and contact information.

4. Check before publishing

  • [ ] On a phone screen, the menu, address, and opening hours are easy to read.
  • [ ] Prices, photos, contact details, and days off match current business information.
  • [ ] You have tested the buttons and contact methods to confirm they lead where intended.
  • [ ] If you are using a store, payment and shipping settings match how you actually operate.
  • [ ] If you need a domain or social login, you have checked their setup status.

No-code tools do not automatically guarantee a perfect site. They cannot guarantee search rankings or sales, unlimited free use, or an error-free result. As a next step, collect the materials above, decide the site’s purpose and required features, enter real information into a template, and review each item before publishing.
