Getting started

Before Building a Website, Turn Visitor Questions into Pages

Deciding who will visit and what they need to know makes it easier to choose pages and gather materials. A hypothetical neighborhood pottery studio shows how to turn a question list into a site structure.

When you begin building a website, it is tempting to start with a template or colors. That can leave out the information visitors actually need. First choose one priority visitor group and one action you want them to take. Decide whether the main goal is an inquiry, a visit booking, or a purchase; that choice helps you work out which pages and functions are needed.

Define the visitor and goal in one sentence

Write down: “Who will visit, what will they check, and what should they do next?” Rather than trying to serve everyone at once, start with the people who matter most to your first version of the site. Group their questions in the order they need answers to make a decision. For example: “What do you offer?”, “What are the cost and schedule?”, and “How do I book or buy?”

### Hypothetical example: a neighborhood pottery studio

The owner of a hypothetical studio sets a clear first goal: help local residents who are new to the studio learn about a one-day class and book a place. Their questions are what they will make, whether beginners can join, what the dates and cost are, and how to get in touch. The homepage therefore introduces the classes and explains how to book. A class detail page brings together materials to bring, dates, cost, and booking instructions. An About page and frequently asked questions support trust and further research, while online sales are left out of the initial goal. Before publishing, the owner must check that the operating details and booking method are accurate.

Match each question to a page and its materials

For every question, decide where the answer belongs and what information or materials you need. The homepage should say who the service is for and make the next action clear. Detail pages should give the information visitors need to choose. Use photos that represent what is actually offered, and make the contact page accurate about contact methods and operating hours. If a detail has not yet been confirmed, do not fill it in by guessing; keep it on a list to verify with the person responsible.

Checklist: - Write one sentence for the priority visitor and one for the primary goal. - List 3–5 visitor questions and assign each an answering page. - Gather photos and materials such as service descriptions, dates, and prices. - Personally check contact details, links, booking or purchase steps, and copy on each page.

Choose a tool, but keep checking the result

TalkTalkMySite offers no-code templates, AI chat, and visual editing. You can get started without coding or design experience, but the owner is responsible for checking and correcting the content, layout, and business details. Basic is for a website, Standard is for a store, and Premium is for multilingual sites. Payments, social login, domains, and shipping need to be set up as needed. Do not assume that use is unlimited or free, or that search rankings, sales, or error-free operation are guaranteed. For your next step, use your question list to draft the homepage and essential pages, then review them from a real visitor’s perspective and check whether any important question is still unanswered.
