Getting started

A First Website Checklist for a Baby and Kids Brand

You can start without design experience using templates, AI chat, and visual editing. Decide what the site should do, gather brand materials, and verify the content and settings before publishing.

TalkTalkMySite

1. Choose the goal and the functions you need

Start by writing one sentence describing what you want visitors to do on your website. Your preparation will differ depending on whether you want to introduce your brand and products or accept online orders as well. TalkTalkMySite offers Basic for a website, Standard for a store, and Premium for a multilingual site. Choose the option that fits your needs. If you need multiple languages, decide in advance which pages and languages you intend to support.

You do not need coding or design experience to begin. You can use no-code templates, AI chat, and visual editing to create a draft. However, the tools do not decide your business details for you or verify the finished site on your behalf.

2. Materials to gather before you begin

Prepare these items before starting:

  • Your brand name, a one- or two-sentence introduction, contact details, and business information
  • Your logo file, if you have one, brand colors, and photos of products or your space
  • Accurate copy for your introduction, products or services, and frequently asked questions

  • If you will sell products: product names, prices, options, stock and shipping information, and details about exchanges and returns
  • The domain you plan to use, payment method, and whether you need social login

If your photos or copy are not ready, keep placeholders clearly separate from final materials. Replace them before publishing so temporary information does not appear to visitors as if it were final.

3. A practical sequence and a hypothetical example

1. List the pages you need and keep the navigation simple. 2. Choose a template suited to your goal. 3. Add your materials, then refine text, images, and layout with visual editing. 4. Check that the navigation and copy remain readable on a mobile screen. 5. Complete any necessary external settings and test the result.

**Hypothetical example — “Little Forest Baby Goods”:** At first, the brand needs an introduction, a product list, and a contact page, so it chooses Basic for an introductory website. If it later decides to sell products online, it can consider store creation with Standard. It prepares product photos and option details, then checks payment and shipping settings before taking real orders. This fictional example illustrates the decision process; it is not a real business.

4. Check before publishing, then take the next step

  • Are all buttons, menu items, phone numbers, and contact details correct?
  • On mobile, are images displayed properly and is the text large enough to read?
  • Do product details, prices, options, and shipping information agree with one another?
  • Have you actually completed every required setting, such as payments, social login, the domain, and shipping?
  • Have you followed the main visitor paths yourself and looked for errors or placeholder copy?

Payments, social login, domains, and shipping require setup; they are not automatically ready just because you used a template. A template does not guarantee search rankings or sales, free unlimited use, or an error-free result. As a next step, list the pages and materials you need, choose the type of site, and draft just the first page.
