A Practical Editing Order for Kids’ Homepage Copy and Action Buttons

A hands-on editing sequence for first-time operators: decide what parents need to know, write concise copy and a clear action button, then test the flow on mobile.

TalkTalkMySite

The first screen of a children’s service website should help a parent quickly answer two questions: “Is this right for my child?” and “What should I do next?” The needs of a daycare, play class, and kids’ program are different. If you begin with attractive photos and a vague line such as “A happy day,” the information that matters may get lost. Decide what to say first, then edit in TalkTalkMySite using the sequence below.

1. Choose one primary action for a first-time visitor

Before creating buttons, pick one main goal for the first screen. For a class, that might be checking programs or asking a question. For a venue that accepts visits, checking available times may come first. If the first screen gives several actions equal weight, visitors may not know which to choose.

  • Write down the single most important action. Example: “Check trial-class dates.”
  • List what a parent needs to know before taking that action. Example: age range, class location, and how to check dates.
  • If a second action is genuinely needed, give it less visual emphasis than the primary one.

**Hypothetical example:** A site for art classes for children aged 4–6 could use “View class dates” as its primary action and “Ask about how classes work” as a secondary action. Do not promise a booking or consultation if that is not how the service actually operates.

2. Write the first-screen copy before choosing photos

The headline should say who the service is for and what it offers. The supporting sentence should add facts that help a visitor choose what to do next. A line like “A place where children’s dreams grow” conveys a mood, but does not say where children can take part or what ages the service is for. Be specific, using only information the operator can verify.

  • Headline draft: “[Activity or service] for [age group].”
  • Supporting-copy draft: Include only the first-screen essentials, such as location, format, or how to check dates.
  • Button label: State what will happen after a click. Examples: “View class dates” or “Explore programs.”

**Hypothetical example:** Under “Weekend art classes for ages 4–6,” you could write, “Classes are held in small groups; see the program guide for the location and dates of each session.” If the classes are not small-group sessions, or dates are not published there, replace those claims with verified information.

3. Edit in the order people read

Instead of polishing every section at once, make changes in the order a visitor’s attention moves across the first screen. Write the headline and supporting copy first, then add the primary button and, if needed, a secondary one. Confirm that the page or information each button promises to show is ready. If its destination does not exist yet, create it before publishing the button or hold the button back.

TalkTalkMySite supports drafting copy through AI chat and reviewing and changing the result in visual editing. Do not treat AI-generated text as confirmed operational information. The operator must verify ages, dates, locations, and class formats, and should revise awkward or exaggerated wording. Short sentences that communicate one idea at a time are easier for parents to scan.

4. Choose images and fonts to support the copy

Choose images only after the wording and button meaning are clear. You can search licensed stock images and videos, but check that a photo will not mislead visitors into thinking it shows your actual premises or program. If it is not a real class scene, do not describe it as though it were. The first-screen slider supports up to five images, but filling all five slots matters less than making sure each image reinforces the same message.

TalkTalkMySite offers live previews for six OFL Korean fonts. Compare them and check whether supporting text and button labels remain comfortable to read on a small screen. Even when you use a decorative font, prioritize the legibility of essential information and action labels.

  • Check that the image does not tell a different story from the headline.
  • If you use multiple slides, make sure each image supports the first screen’s main message.
  • Check that differences in the typeface and size of the heading, supporting copy, and button make the reading order clear.

5. Test the action flow on mobile

A page that looks good in the editor is not necessarily ready to publish. Before publishing, open the actual mobile view. Check that the opening line is not cut off, the button is visible and easy to tap, and the destination contains the information promised by the button. Also verify that the button leads to the intended page and that its content matches current operations.

  • Scan the first screen as a parent: can you identify the intended age group, service, and next action?
  • Tap the primary button and check that the destination matches what the label promises.
  • Make sure the secondary button does not compete with the primary action or duplicate a link to the same destination.
  • At a narrow screen width, check that text, images, and buttons do not overlap or push important information out of view.

Scope and your next edit

This sequence helps clarify the first screen’s message and visitor flow; it does not guarantee search rankings, visits, or revenue. AI drafts do not guarantee accuracy or error-free publication, so review the content before publishing. Also check which SEO features are available on your plan: Basic supports shared SEO, Standard supports per-page SEO and stores, and Premium supports multilingual stores. Improving first-screen copy and checking search appearance are separate tasks.

For your next edit, choose the one main action a parent should take from the first screen and prepare the page that button will actually open. Then add the headline, supporting copy, and button in order, and test the complete flow yourself on mobile.
