A Photographer’s Mobile Website: Fixing Menus and Text Size

If visitors can see your work but struggle to find how to contact you, check the menu and text first. A labelled hypothetical photographer’s example shows what to prepare and how to compare the result before and after.

A photographer’s website should do more than showcase images: someone visiting on a phone should be able to identify your type of work and find a way to contact you quickly. Before starting website creation, check what a visitor can read and tap on the current screen instead of adding more menu items. On a small display, tiny text or an overlong menu can make even a strong portfolio difficult to explore.

Prepare the essentials first

Gather a few representative photographs, a short photographer bio, the types of shoots you offer, and your contact details. Put only information visitors are likely to look for in the menu. You might start with concise labels such as “Work,” “About,” and “Contact,” then test where each item leads. Taking a screenshot of the mobile view makes it easier to compare the changes before and after.

TalkTalkMySite offers no-code templates, AI chat, and visual editing, so you can get started without coding or design experience. The tool does not automatically judge every detail of your content correctly, however. You remain responsible for checking the wording, layout, contact details, and business information.

Hypothetical example: Yoonseo’s portrait photography site

**Before:** Yoonseo put Work, About, Shoot Information, Pricing Inquiries, Blog, and Contact all in the mobile menu. The labels were long and the text was small, so visitors could not quickly tell where to ask about a shoot. Several lines of introductory copy also pushed the main photograph down the first screen.

**After:** Yoonseo reduced the menu to “Work,” “About,” and “Contact,” and moved the shoot information into the contact page. The menu text was enlarged to make it more comfortable to read on a phone, and the button label became the more specific “Ask About a Shoot.” Yoonseo placed a representative photograph and a brief introduction at the top of the page. When making real edits, do not treat one particular text size as universally correct. Check that you can read the text comfortably on your own phone and tap the controls without triggering the wrong action.

Check the changes on your phone

  • Open and close the mobile menu. Are all its items easy to see?
  • Can you read the text and tap the buttons without zooming in?
  • Are the portfolio images cropped appropriately, and can you tell what kind of photography is offered from the first screen?
  • Does the contact button lead to the intended contact method?
  • Are the spelling, contact details, photography services, and descriptions accurate?

If a shortened menu label is still ambiguous, make its meaning clearer. Enlarging text can make a page longer, so scroll through it on an actual device and check that neither the images nor the contact button gets lost below the fold.

Choose a next step and keep expectations realistic

Once the representative images and basic information are ready, decide whether you need a regular website or also need store functionality for bookings or payments. TalkTalkMySite’s Basic plan is for a website, Standard is for a store, and Premium is for multilingual use. Payments, social login, domains, and shipping each require setup, so check how the settings work for every feature you choose. Search rankings and sales are not guaranteed, nor is unlimited free use or a result with no mistakes.

As a next step, capture the mobile menu and text before and after your edits. Ask one person to find your portfolio and contact button on their phone. Note where they hesitate; that gives you a specific place to improve next.
