A Restaurant’s Multilingual Site: What to Decide Before Translating

The information you need to translate depends on your menu and how guests will use the site. Learn what to decide, what to gather, and how to check each language before publishing.

TalkTalkMySite

Before translating a restaurant website into several languages, decide what visitors should be able to do on it. Will the site only show opening hours and directions? Should visitors browse the menu and contact the restaurant, or place online orders as well? Each choice changes the information you need and the settings you must check. Even with a no-code tool, the owner is responsible for verifying the content, page layout, and business details.

1. Choose the purpose and scope first

If the main goal is to help people visit, prioritize the address, directions, opening hours, closing days, and booking or contact instructions. For a menu site, prepare each item’s name, description, price, serving hours, and available options. If you plan to sell or deliver online, you will also need product details and payment and shipping setup. More functions mean more information and processes to maintain.

Choose only the languages you can support and keep current. Consider whether you can update every menu and notice promptly, and whether someone can respond to inquiries in each language. A language option is useful only if the restaurant can maintain the information shown in it.

2. Gather materials before translation

Collect the latest source information in one place, and identify who is responsible for each item and who gives final approval.

  • Restaurant name, address, contact details, opening hours, closing days, and booking instructions
  • Menu names, descriptions of ingredients and flavor, prices, options, and dates or hours of availability
  • Photos, with notes identifying the item, portion, or situation shown in each image
  • Customer-facing details about ordering, payment, pickup, or delivery
  • Proper names and preferred spellings, plus expressions that should not be translated

Even if photos or translated text are ready, check that they match the current menu. For sensitive details such as allergens or origin, do not fill gaps with guesses; show only information the restaurant has verified. Do not promise an ordering method or delivery condition on the site before the restaurant actually offers it.

Hypothetical example: a small pasta restaurant

The hypothetical restaurant “Lime Table” prepares a Korean- and English-language website so international guests can check the menu and opening hours. First, it confirms its address, closing days, booking contact method, and descriptions of the main dishes, then checks that each photo matches its menu item. It does not currently accept online orders, so it leaves out payment functionality. If it later decides to operate ordering and delivery, it will prepare product information and payment and shipping settings separately. This is an illustration, not a claim about customer response or results.

3. Choose a tool and check before publishing

You can get started without coding or design experience using TalkTalkMySite’s no-code templates, AI chat, and visual editing. Basic is for a website, Standard for a store, and Premium for multilingual use; consider the option that matches your scope. Payments, social login, domains, and shipping each require setup. Selecting an option does not mean those details are configured automatically.

Before publishing, check: - Do menu names, descriptions, prices, and business details match across languages? - Are the menu and contact instructions easy to read on a phone? - Do links, booking instructions, and ordering details reflect the real process? - Have you reviewed every language page again after making changes?

Search rankings, sales, unlimited free use, and error-free operation are not guaranteed. Start by defining a manageable, visit-focused scope and gathering the source materials. Review the pages one language at a time. Your next step is to have the restaurant approve the current menu and operating details, then test the contact and ordering flow yourself.
